Bruce was born and raised along California’s coast, between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. A formative stint living in Grenada during his late teens likely sparked his lifelong passion for the ocean, sailing, and the tropics. His early maritime career included captaining charter boats throughout the Caribbean, running whale-watching tours in Santa Barbara, and completing numerous offshore deliveries. These experiences eventually led him to Sag Harbor, where in 1982, Bruce founded Tait Yachts as a family-run brokerage. His daughter, Danielle joined the company in 1989 and now leads the company and its charter division. Bruce’s work in yacht sales, commissioning, and management took him across the globe, and his energetic, hands-on approach helped build long-standing client relationships and strong industry connections. An avid racer, Bruce competed in prestigious regattas including Antigua Race Week, the Marion and Newport-Bermuda Races, Block Island Race Week, the Heineken Regatta, and Les Voiles de St. Tropez.
